Background
- Development without proper planning
- Development projects approved without adequate analysis of impact on schools
- City's population expected to increase by one million by 2030
- 18% increase in school age children expected in the next 5 years in District 2
- DoE's Capital Plan is woefully inadequate in relieving overcrowding
- Overcrowding leads to large class sizes
- Schools sharing the building with another school have added challenges of scheduling space
- In some schools overcrowding has resulted in students eating lunch at 10:40AM and intervention work conducted in a broom closet
- Attend the Community District Education Council (CDEC) meetings
- Reach out to local Community Boards to bring attention to overcrowding
