We need your help and advocacy immediately.
We especially need the support of our great CEC.
This is an issue of the furthest area of downtown NYC,
it may be completely different than your local issues, but please, don't let that keep us
from advocating for each other:

We need IS 267 locally zoned for 6th - 8th grade.

Here's why we parents wish for zoning:
1) It would put less pressure on our public school 4th graders as young as 8 years currently taking the standardized tests to determined their middle school and academic future.
2) It would allow the K-8 structure to work socially: allowing the older neighborhood children to mentor the younger. This has been the proven social advantage to filling a K-8 with local 6th to 8th graders: it tends to bring strong feelings of neighborhood responsibility to the students.
3) It would allow our 6th to 8th grade local children to finally enjoy neighborhood amenities such as the Manhattan Youth After School program, Downtown Little League, Soccer League, and others.
4) Our zoned middle school for the CB1 area is Simon Baruch MS 104 on 21st Street and 1st Avenue. It is one of the furthest zoned middle schools from students' homes in the City. Most other areas of NYC have zoned middle school nearby, allowing for convenience in transportation. This requires sending our children, as young as 10 years, onto difficult public transportation (requires a subway change) in the pre dawn hours taking up to 90 minutes.
