IMPORTANT NEWS

* THE SCA/DOE's 2009-2014 CAPITAL PLAN, which funds school construction, is coming up for a vote in the City Council. If you are worried about school overcrowding, you should be worried about this plan! Parents and advocates who have reviewed it argue that it is not nearly sufficient to address overcrowding. See CAPITAL PLAN at right for more info.

Please attend a Capital Plan hearing of the City Council at City Hall at 3 PM on Wednesday May 21 to speak out about the insufficiency of the plan.

Please call your City Councilmember and urge them to pledge to vote "no" on the education capital plan without an increase in the number of seats. Find your Councilmember's telephone number here.

* Click here for a memo from Time Out From Testing dissecting the DOE spin on the latest state test results.

* Go to www.dailyhornet.com for individual petitions on local overcrowding as well as citywide education issues.

* MAYORAL CONTROL is coming up for a vote in the NYS Assembly this spring. Read what PS PAC parents and advocates are saying about it at left, under PSPAC 101, "Education Issues at a Glance." PS PAC is calling for a new law with: (1) Meaningful checks and balances; (2) Oversight of DOE financing and data analysis; (3) DOE compliance with city and state law; (4) Improved mechanisms for public input; and (5) Strengthened enforcement of state education law. Please call your legislator and urge them to press for these changes. Find out who your legislator is here.

PS PAC is encouraging parents to check out the New York City Parent Commission Report, here. If you like their ideas, as we do, sign their petition and introduce a resolution in support of them at your PA/PTA, CEC, or Community Board.
